Austin Reserve Gin Single Barrel #1: French Oak

Gin description

This barrel was previously used to age and oxidize Tempranillo for a port wine. The barrel had a rich, leathery wine character when we received it. Austin Reserve Gin Batch #8 went in on August 16th, 2014, and rested there for just under 7 months. The gin picked up a pinkish-brown hue from the barrel, a mellow wine character, and ended up with a significantly softened botanical presence. The resulting spirit has a big oak and spice note, complemented by the earthy rosemary tones and a light, floral finish. Bottled at 98.2 Proof and finished with black wax.
