Gin description
Storms raged upon his arrival. The waves slammed the shores as the ships belonging to kingstadholder Willem III of Orange arrived on the British South Coast. This was to be the start of an advance that the British would be reminded of until the present day. Not only did William of Orange replace the British King in the so-called Glorious Revolution of 1688-1689, he also brought something typically Dutch to the British Isles. ‘Jenever’, Genever in English. This was shortened to Dutch gin in no time at all. Thanks to William of Orange, gin became incredibly popular among the English people. The English even left their beer and ale for what it was, as gin was all they wanted! From that moment on, gin began its advance and became the product that is now so well-known worldwide. Now, almost 350 years later, Amsterdam Craft Gin Company is bringing the authentic recipe from that era back on the market. Founder Alexander Janssens, who himself spent many years living in London, searched the archives of the British Library in order to unearth the original recipe. It took him almost two years to find it. With the help of master-distiller Herman Jansen from Schiedam, they developed and revived the centuries-old recipe, that conquered the British Isles in 1689. The result is Gin 1689, a tribute to Dutch craftsmanship as it was over three centuries ago. Also, a tribute to king-stadholder Willem van Orange, who in effect laid the foundations for one of the most successful Dutch export products of that time. And a tribute to history and the present time, which are inextricably linked by this bottle.
