Gin description
A gin with a subtle taste of juniper and select spices made according to a secret family recipe handed down over four generations. At Rockland we believe in making the perfect Gin. The Rockland Gin label is as distinct as its Gin; the purple is a reflection of the juniper used in the recipe and remains virtually unchanged since we first made gin. Recognized as Sri Lanka’s finest and best-loved Gin. Rockland was one of the first Gin manufactures in Asia, made as per exacting British standards. At the time of the Second World War, the distillery was legally required to manufacture spirits in support of medical needs arising from the war. It was at this time the then Chairman thought it would made good sense to make a Gin at the same time – until that time, Rockland Distillery only produced Arrack as it had done since 1924. However, it was the perception of British Excise Officers that a good Gin could not be produced outside the British Empire and hence permission was not granted to manufacture Gin in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon). However due to persistence by Rockland and after much deliberation a new regulations was specially drafted to allow the manufacture of Gin in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon), this regulations was called Ceylon Made Foreign Liquor (CMFL), similarly the ruling was also applied to India and a new regulations called India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) was created around the same time.
