Gin description
Hernö High Coast Terroir is a vintage gin distilled once per year with locally picked botanicals. For the 2020 release Master Distiller and Founder Jon Hillgren got hold of chaga, a rare mushroom found on one out of five thousand Swedish birch trees, even today used for medicinal use but more importantly a great source of vanilla notes and giving depth to the gin. To complement this, the classic Hernö characteristic meadowsweet and even more floral notes with rose petals. To give some acidity Jon decided on flowering sorrel found less than 3 meters from the distillery, all hand-picked. Lastly, the blue forest gold, juniper. This was probably the most challenging to forage this year due to the drought of previous summers. With help from local heroes we managed to source just enough to make a small batch of Hernö High Coast Terroir Gin 2020. Layers of juniper in the nose, ranging from mature to green. Loads of floral notes driven by meadowsweet. Grassy green. Initially load of meadowsweet in the mouth, green notes and resin accompanied with juniper and some acidic notes. Grassy notes lingers, forest floor yet fresh. A very dry finish.
