Gin description
Calafate berries are native blue-coloured berries that flourish in the Last Hope province in the far south of Chilean Patagonia. These robust berries are important in local folk-lore and also a key ingredient in the gastronomy of our area. They have big red-fruit flavours, along with some red-wine-like tannins, touches of bitter and only very little sweetness. Our Calafate gin begins with the same base as our Last Hope Dry Gin. After the gin has been knocked down with pure Patagonian water, we add locally foraged Calafate berries to the gin. We let them steep for 6-8 weeks, until our gin is a brilliant purple colour and has the aroma of ripe Calafate berries. Once the berries are filtered out it is ready to drink. Last Hope Calafate Gin showcases the true flavour of Calafate berries, and makes an unforgettable gin and tonic.
