Gin description
A classic London Dry style gin. Clean, piny and juniper-forward, whilst balancing softness with bright lemon zest and floral lavender notes. The main botanical in this 8 botanical gin is the leaf of the Spekboom tree or In Xhosa, called Igwanitsha. It is found predominantly in the eastern cape, and especially in the semi-arid Karoo region of South Africa. Spekboom trees grow to between 2 and 5 meters tall and can live up to 200 years. Spekboom Gin is produced using only 100% winter wheat grain neutral spirit. The neutral spirit is re-distilled with our unique copper catalysation process which results in a smooth clean vodka that becomes Spekboom Gin. Five carefully selected botanicals, including fresh Spekboom leaves, cape lemon peel, and lavender are placed inside a basket in a modified section of the still called the carter head and distilled in small batches using a modern technique called vapour infusion. This technique allows the alcohol vapours to pass over the botanicals condensing the complex essential oil flavours and aromas to form a fresher, more delicate tasting gin. After the distillation we blend spekboom gin with our distillery reverse osmosis water to bottling strength, creating soft well balanced london dry style gin.
