Gin description
Designed by renowned barkeeper and Detroit City Distillery's 2015 inaugural Ginsmith of the Year, Chas Williams. The name was inspired by the bartender’s family ties to Detroit, that go back almost 100 years. His great grandfather owned a store at the end of Leicester Court, the same block where he lived in Detroit. It was in an old Jewish neighborhood, one that had a Purple Gang presence. The shop was only a few doors away from The Oakland Sugar House, a speakeasy whose name has inspired the name of a couple great local cocktail bars, one of which Chas worked at. Chas wanted to create a gin that was both citrusy and spicy while staying true to what a traditional gin should taste like. The gin is limited to a few botanicals, with a goal of creating something simple yet complex. Botanicals include Grapefruit Zest, Juniper, Coriander, Orris Root and Cinnamon.
